The Garden Apprentice Program (GAP) at Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a great way for teens to learn about urban agriculture and the environment while developing job skills, including teamwork, communication, and responsibility. Apprentices make a nine-month commitment to GAP, from March to November. Tier 4 apprentices earn an hourly wage. Compost enthusiasts and advocates have the opportunity each spring to take the Master Composter Certificate Course with the NYC Compost Project hosted by Brooklyn Botanic Garden. This course requires 18–21 hours of classroom instruction, 2 field trips, plus 30 community service hours helping to advance on-site composting in NYC.
